About Tuscany’s MICHELIN stars: the back story

The MICHELIN Guide Italy 2026 gives Tuscany forty starred restaurants: Enoteca Pinchiorri in Florence with three stars, four with two and thirty-five with one, plus twenty-three Bib Gourmand addresses for good cooking at moderate prices.

Three and two stars

Enoteca Pinchiorri, on Via Ghibellina in Florence, is the region’s only three-star restaurant. Arnolfo in Colle di Val d’Elsa, Campo del Drago at Castiglion del Bosco, Caino in Montemerano and Il Piccolo Principe in Viareggio hold two stars.

Florence

Seven starred tables in Florence and Fiesole range from the Four Seasons’ Il Palagio to Massimo Bottura’s Gucci Osteria on the Piazza della Signoria.

Forte dei Marmi alone has five starred restaurants in the 2026 guide (MICHELIN Guide).

Wine country

Many of the stars are in the vineyards: Osteria di Passignano in an abbey’s cellars, La Torre at Castello del Nero, Poggio Rosso at Borgo San Felice and La Sala dei Grappoli at Castello Banfi.

The coast

Versilia is the most starred corner of Tuscany, with five restaurants in Forte dei Marmi and three in Viareggio. Further south, La Pineta cooks fish on the beach at Marina di Bibbona.

Good value

The Bib Gourmand list is the best guide to Tuscan cooking at moderate prices: trattorias such as Il Latini and Trattoria Cibrèo in Florence, Da Pode outside San Gimignano and Taverna del Grappolo Blu in Montalcino.

Booking

Book starred restaurants through their own websites or by phone, well ahead for weekends and summer. Many close one or two days a week, and some close for part of the winter.

Our advice: in the countryside, plan a long lunch rather than dinner, so nobody has to drive the hill roads at night after the wine.
